Tell us about yourself
My name is Joy Wanjiru Wambui, I am 12 years old, a pupil at Bonanza Valley School in Kahawa Wendani, where I am in Class Seven.
When did you start modelling?
I started modelling when I was four years old, at New Junior Campus in Tassia. How do your parents help you in developing your interest? My mum has been supportive by encouraging me to do my best in my talents, and also perform well in classwork.
How did you feel being crowned Little Miss Galaxy Kenya 2018?
I was excited and I’m still very happy about it. I remember how tears of joy rolled down my cheeks. I have always dreamt of being a model, so it was a dream come true for me.
Which other competitions have you participated in before?
I have participated in Amazing Little Stars with Kids Pageantry Kenya sponsored by Debbie Oyugi Kids. I have also participated in fashion shows at school during functions such as prize giving days.
I was also honoured to walk down the runway at Nairobi Fashion Week by Kenyan designer Debbie Oyugi Kids Wear and Russian designer Irina and Elena. Apart from that, I’m set to travel to Bulgaria from March 10-17, which I’m looking forward to.
How are you preparing for the international show?
Every day after school, I have to practice, just to make sure I am perfect in what I do. I am working hard to see my dreams come true.
If you are crowned Little Miss Galaxy International, what difference will you make?
If I’m crowned the queen of fashion, I will support other talented children through motivating them to work hard to achieve their goals. I would like to be the best pageantry queen and take care of other children’s needs, especially the less fortunate in society. Who motivates you? My mum. She is hardworking, and always tells me to work hard and not to ignore any of my abilities.
What other talents do you have?
I can say am versatile and talented. I am good at singing, dancing and also drama. I have won several prizes in drama and I have acquired my scouting badges.
Do you intend to pursue modelling as a career when you grow up?
Yes, and I also want to be a fashion designer, as well as come up with my own fashion line.
What is your word of advice for other children who would want to venture into modelling like you?
I encourage every child out there with a talent not to give up. Keep going on, for God did not give you a talent for nothing. You should always exercise it, to your best ability.
