Declining wildlife population worrying, says First Lady

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has blamed dwindling wildlife population in the country on illegal trafficking. Speaking during the opening of Awareness Training to Combat Illegal Wildlife Trafficking conference at the Kenya Airways Training Centre in Nairobi yesterday, the First Lady said the country is committed to supporting those involved in fighting wildlife trafficking by providing more resources to invest in conservation. “Over the years, wildlife population has been decreasing due to illegal poaching and trafficking.

I call upon stakeholders to collaborate to ensure that this vice is eliminated,” she said. Tourism Cabinet secretary Najib Balala said there is major improvement on handling of passengers at terminals, especially airports, hence wildlife trafficking is easily detected. He said Kenya, a pioneer in wildlife conservation, is committed to combating illegal trafficking, calling on stakeholders to join forces to protect wildlife from trafficking.
