Taking care of dreadlocks is different from person to person, depending on the individual, length, size and also if they are coloured. To maintain neat dreadlocks, the ideal time frame for a retouch is a month.
Step 1: Use shampoo specific for dreadlocks, as it detangles the roots for an easy retouch process. Also, any other shampoo may leave undesirable residues.
Step 2: Once you have washed the hair, wrap it in a towel to remove excess water. To dry off completely, get in the dryer for about 15 minutes.
Step 3: After drying, the hair is now ready for retouch. For this process, waxing gel is used from the root of the hair. Twist the hair in a clockwise motion for the new growth to lock up.
Step 4: Now roll the dread back and forth between your palms, applying a little downward pressure and working your way from the top to the bottom of the dread. This is to shape and separate the dreadlocks.
Step 5: You can then style the dreadlocks as desired.
Step 6: After styling, get in the dryer for 15 minutes, for the gel to dry off. You can finish off with a sheen spray for a fresh look.
