Gatundu group aids boy’s education dreams

A Gatundu North WhatsApp group has raised school fees for a boy who almost missed the chance to join secondary school. Brian Ng’ang’a, a 17-year-old, who was a pupil at Mukuyuini Primary School, scored 266 marks in KCPE exam but lack of resources saw him remain in Kamwangi village in search of casual jobs as his peers pursued their dreams.

The mother, who is a casual labourer, could not raise the required Sh20,000 fee, uniform and other necessities as the grandmother is sickly. It is during his endeavours that Francis Mwenda, one of the group members, met him and after hearing his story, shared it on the WhatsApp group. Consequently, members of the group dubbed Gatundu North professionals offset all the school fees, bought uniform and gave the boy upkeep money.

“We are happy that social media can at this time be used to aid the unfortunate, transform lives and inspire generosity. The boy’s education means a brighter future for him, his family and the society,” said Mwenda. Area Education director George Wachira helped Ng’ang’a secure a slot at Kanjuku High School.
