Kakamega youth will benefit from a football tournament that will rope in 200 teams. Tournament orgnaiser Ssemi Aina says the ‘Aina 037’ event will cover the larger Kakamega County. Aina, a former AFC Leopards chairman and contender for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairmanship last year, said the tournament starts in April across all the 12 sub-counties and 60 wards.
The tournament, which Aina intends to make an annual programme, is expected to rope in 200 football clubs taking part. Through his Ssemi Aina Foundation that offers scholarships, as well education to needy and bright students will fully fund the tournament with the winner travelling by air to face Koth Biro 2018-19 winners in Nairobi as a way of players, community cultural change and interactions.
Aina has served but left Ingwe in a huff after protracted war with former club boss Alex Ole Magelo says that he hopes to offer a playing chance to talented players from the vast county considering the big pool of players who fail to make it to the national arena.
Aina has been supporting Kakamega School ‘Green Commandos’ who are playing in the National Super League (NSL). Following politics and in-fighting among stakeholders and politicians over who is to take care and run the school outfit, Ssemi left the team and withdrew his financial and support and will instead divert his resources to the new tournament. FKF Western Region Office and referees will be involved and will officiate the tournament.
