Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika and Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara have accused a Chinese contractor undertaking the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project of corruption and favoritism.
They said the contractor had denied locals employment in the construction of Nairobi-Naivasha line. Speaking in Naivasha yesterday, the leaders accused the contractor of ferrying the same workers who had worked in the Mombasa route to Naivasha.
They gave the contractor two weeks to rectify the situation, failure to which they will lead residents in a massive demonstration. “We are putting the contractor on notice that we shall not sit and watch as he gives area residents a raw deal,” said Kihika.
This came as details emerged that the department of public health had served the contractor with a 14-day notice to address sanitation concerns around the satellite site in Mai Mahiu area. The two leaders, at the same, time called on power firm KenGen to ensure locals are the first to benefit from its ongoing projects in Olkaria.
