Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso has welcomed the plan to construct a Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) substation in Bomet town. Speaking when National Land Commission (NLC) officials and Kenya Railways engineers paid her a courtesy call yesterday, the governor challenged residents to take advantage of the development.
She said the SGR station will help ease transportation of both goods and passengers in the South Rift region. “The county government will sensitise the people on the need to grab available business opportunities.
This is an exciting moment for the residents,” said Laboso (pictured). NLC commissioners Samwel Tororei, Tom Konyimbih and Silas Kinoti said land who will be affected by the project will be compensated.
“Do not be cheated by cartels and speculators to surrender your land. Instead deal directly with government institutions,” he warned. Tororei also urged the county to ensure unplanned structures are not erected near the area earmarked for the substation.
