Herma Muge, the widow of Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Eldoret diocese bishop Alexander Muge died on Friday. Herma, 66, died at her Elgon View home in Eldoret town as the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death 28 years ago remain unresolved. She has been battling spinal injury which had confined her to the use of crutches for a long time.
Due to ill health, she missed many commemorations of her husband’s death held on August 14 of every year at the Eldoret ACK Cathedral compound where he was buried. During an anniversary that she attend four years ago, Herma spoke of the pain and anguish she had suffered since her husband died in a road accident in 1990.
“Since my husband died, nothing has been done in his honour even in the diocese he was heading,” she said. Muge, who was a fierce critic of the Kanu regime died in a road accident at Kipkaren trading centre on the Webuye-Eldoret highway on his way from Busia where the then Labour Minister Peter Okondo had warned him not to visit.
Former Eldoret diocese Bishop Thomas Kogo said the passing on of Herma was a loss to the family and the church community. “We pray to God to look after the family at this time of sorrow,” said Kogo.
