A 40-year-old man is admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for surgery after four nails were hammered into his head by his friend after a disagreement. Isaac Mutembei was in Itara village in Tharaka Nithi county at around 11am on Monday when he joined his friends at the market place.
Shortly after, Mutembei was engaged into an argument that degenerated in a physical fight where he was hit with a hammer rendering him unconscious. Seemingly not satisfied with the damage he had caused, the man, name withheld for security purposes, drove four steel nails in Mutembei’s head.
His brother Jacob Munene said he received a call that his brother had been rushed to Meru Level Five Hospital with serious head injuries, only to arrive at the facility to find him unconscious. X-ray images showed that two nails penetrated his parietal part, one the frontal area and one the occipital.
“Mutembei was taken to theatre on Tuesday, an operation that took eight hours,” he said. The hospital recommended that Mutembei be transferred to KNH for specialised treatment.
“My brother, who is in a coma, is at the Intensive Care Unit,” said a visibly distraught Munene. It is not exactly clear what Mutembei and his friend were arguing about. The culprit is in police custody awaiting investigations.
