10 people dead, many more missing in Taiwan earthquake

At least 10 people are reported to have been killed, 265 others injured and scores still missing after an earthquake measuring 6.4 on the richter scale struck Taiwan’s Hualien on Tuesday.

Nervous residents have since endured more than 200 aftershocks, including a 5.7 quake on Wednesday and smaller tremors early today.

Tualien lies close to Taiwan’s east coast. The island sites between two tectonic plates and is prone to earthquakes, with the National government warning that aftershocks are likely to be experienced over the next two weeks.
