Athletics Kenya (AK) president Jack Tuwei has praised Italian athletics management guru Gabriele Rosa for his role in development of the sport in the country.
Tuwei said despite being around for 30 years sponsoring events, Rosa was still expanding his chain of training camps in Kenya, with the latest being one coming up in Londiani, Kericho County.
The Italian through his Rosa Associati stable has handled many top names including two-time Boston marathon winner Moses Tanui, National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) boss Paul Tergat and the late Samuel Kamau Wanjiru who won Kenya’s first Olympic marathon gold in Beijing, China in 2008.
Speaking in Nyahururu during the second edition of the Discovery Kenya Nyahururu 10K Road Race at the weekend, Tuwei said Rosa had agreed to revive the Eldoret annual Discovery Half marathon which was suspended three years ago. The event that had been staged continuously for over 20 years was suspended due to massive route cheating by runners.
“I am happy that he has agreed to revive the half marathon, which is good for the sport in the country,” the AK president said.He told Uasin Gishu AK officials to concentrate in their county and stop parachuting to other counties where Rosa Associati was holding events.
