Nairobi Gymkhana are up to seventh place on the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association Twenty20 table after beating Obuya Academy by five wickets on Sunday. The team, which had previously struggled, selected to bat first and put up an impressive 138/5 in their allotted overs.
Kavi Dosaja (53 off 44 balls) was their main man as he collected a half century for the hosts, helping shore up run scores on the board including two splendid boundaries in their innings. Exciting pace bowler Protus Asigwa dropped two wickets and was responsible for bowling out Dosaja much to the relief of Obuya Academy who were staring at an imminent whitewash.
Veer Dave (28 off 31 balls) and Sidhraj Yojput (27 off 17 balls) also contributed important figures on the board for Gymkhana who now have 18 points as at close of week three action. After the break, the visiting batsmen had the enviable work of chasing 139.
Opener David Obuya showed his class of old by hitting (83 off 53 balls). The former Kenyan international was in ripe form as he executed runs on the crease which included nine boundaries and four highs.
However, he was later bowled out by Raj Savala but not without a standing ovation from his bench. His elder brother Kennedy Obuya (25 off 25 balls) weighed in nicely as the only other double digit scorer for his team as the bowling attack of Gymkhana showed its grit.
Dominic Wesonga and Sidhraj Virajput occasioned a fall of five wickets collectively to slow down the run of the guests who had to contend with a score of 128/8 at close of overs.
Elsewhere, Kanbis saw of Swamibapa by two wickets in a tight match held at Eastleigh School. The Swamis, who batted first, only managed 103/6 as Rajesh Bunia got three wickets for Kanbis. The hosts chased well in 18.5 overs posting 104/8.
