State puts on hold plan for Obama university

Plans to transfer ownership of Siaya Agricultural Training Centre from the National to County government to pave way for Barack Obama University have been put on hold.

In a letter, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho directed the chairman of the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) Karega Mutahi  and County government of Siaya to halt the  handing over processes indefinitely.

Mutahi and Siaya Deputy Governor Dr James Okumbe who were already at site cancelled the event to give consultations a chance as was directed by  the PS.

“I will go back to Nairobi and consult widely on the  matter and I will give you the way forward in a week’s time therefore be calm,” he said.

Siaya Deputy Governor Dr James Okumbe said the county has set aside Sh100 million to renovate infrastructure in the college.
