Lenku urges KWS to fence off parks to reduce human-wildlife conflicts

Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku has urged Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to fence all parks in and around the county to curb further cases of human-wildlife conflicts.

His plea follows the killing of seven elephants by residents yesterday in Poka Kenyawa ward near Sultan Hamud in Kajiado East.

“The elephants were killed as residents tried to protect their lives and farms. In the last one year, 37 people have lost their lives in the area because KWS is not doing its job right,” he said.

Lenku said residents are agitated by the continued failure of KWS to compensate them whenever they are attacked or their crops destroyed.

The governor, who was accompanied by other local leaders including Kajiado North MP Joseph Manje and nominated Senator Mary Seneta, welcomed the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to nominate Keriako Tobiko to the Cabinet.

The leaders urged the National Assembly to support the appointment and approve it.
