Accidents claim lives of six people in Kakamega

Six people died in two separate accidents along a twelve-kilometre stretch on Jomo Kenyatta road in Kakamega county. The first accident, which occurred on Thursday night at Sigalagala Polytechnic, involved a saloon car and a boda boda operator, who was carrying four passengers.

The second, involving a pedestrian and a Kakamega-bound matatu occurred at the Shimalabandu black spot. Addressing the press, Kakamega police boss Charles Chebii said a Toyota
Premio car hit the boda boda operator and his
passengers, killing them all on the spot. Their bodies, he said, were
taken to the County General Hospital (CGH) mortuary.

Chebii said in the second accident, the driver of the matatu
lost control of the vehicle and knocked a man walking on the side of
the road before plunging into a ditch. The injured passengers
were taken to CGH for treatment.

However, there was drama at the scene of the second accident when
rescuers, who came to help the injured passengers, were faced by two
snakes that lay beneath the matatu wreckage. One of the
serpents was killed while the other slithered into
the nearby thickets.
