Gov’t denies inflating electricity bills to recover a Ksh 10.1Bn deficit

Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has denied reports of a possible electricity hike, stating that there is no backdating of electricity bills for customers.
According to Keter, the billing fluctuations as reported from a cross section of consumers has been as a result of an upgrade in billing systems by kenya power, which they are currently in the process of resolving on a case by case basis.
This contradicts financials released by Kenya Power last week, which shows power bills would be backdated to recover a 10.1 billion shilling deficit.
