This is why Raj didn’t sign with Sony Music

Rapper Raj is one of the hottest prospects right now when it comes to hiphop music in the region. After dropping hit songs that got massive rotation in the media, the Kenyan artiste caught the eyes of a number of record labels, which wanted to sign him.

The most prominent among them was globally acclaimed Sony Music. In October 2017, the Obe Baba hit maker flew to Mzansi for negotiations with Sony Music Management, but could not agree on the terms.

“I mainly wanted to get a distribution deal, but we could not agree on that, among other things. However, after consulting with some of the most important people in my life, I had to turn the deal down (said to be worth millions of shillings).

I think I chose a better deal specifically for my fans, whom I’ve kept waiting for so long,” he intimated to PD Wikendi. At the same time, Raj revealed he was working on the release dates of his upcoming album, which he promised to be dope.

“My music took a break because of some of the issues I was facing, including family matters. Now that I have sorted them out, I am focused on growing my brand and my label, Music Bank, while the album will be released soon. With the new team on board, we are just working on the release dates,” he said.
