70 passengers cheat death in Naivasha crash

Close to 70 passengers escaped death narrowly after a bus they were traveling in was involved in a grisly accident on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway. The Busia-bound bus owned by Guardian company collided with an oncoming Pick-up vehicle before veering off the road.

All the three passengers in the Pick-up vehicle were injured in the early morning incident at Kayole area in Naivasha. Two were taken to Naivasha sub-county hospital with serious injuries. Bus passengers escaped unhurt. The accident caused a huge traffic jam on the highway.

Witnesses said the bus veered off the road to avoid a head-on collision with the pick-up vehicle. “The bus literally flew from the highway after hitting the Pick-up and miraculously missed hitting some members of the public and shops,” said Simon Kiarie, a witness.

Both vehicles were towed to Naivasha Police Station as the bus company organised alternative transport for passengers. Naivasha sub-county commissioner Isaac Masinde attributed the incident to careless driving.

Earlier on the same road, four passengers were injured in an accident involving three vehicles. Two trucks and a car were heading to different directions when the accident happened. Masinde urged drivers to be careful.
