A former Eldoret town street boy’s dreams of joining a public secondary school after posting impressive results in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination has been realised.
Mnangat Nelson, 16, who scored 371 marks, was included on the list of 16 students from the needy family background in Uasin Gishu county as beneficiaries of Equity Bank’s sponsorship programme.
An elated Nelson moved the crowd during a ceremony to unveil the beneficiaries in Eldoret town as he narrated how he has braved hunger, disease and sleepless nights for 11 years.
Nelson registered at Natimerir Primary School in Lodwar North, Turkana county more than 500 kilometres from Eldoret and studied by himself. He aspires to become a doctor.
