Kalenjin musician Weldon Cheruiyot popularly known as Kenene, who perished in a road accident at Kamara on Nakuru-Eldoret highway, was yesterday laid to rest in an emotional send-off.
Cheruiyot, who died alongside six others a week ago, was buried at Kenene village in Sotik, Bomet. Speakers eulogised him as a humble and dedicated person, whose music educated and inspired many in the region.
Calls for transparency in disbursement of royalties to musicians took centre stage with leaders’ expressing concern over how Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) was handling the welfare of local musicians.
Led by Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, the leaders faulted MCSK for ‘continued exploitation’ of local artistes despite raking in a lot of money from their songs.
