President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga will meet at the burial of former Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze next week. Close allies of the two leaders confirmed that Uhuru and Raila would attend the burial of the legislator, who died last week of colon cancer.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi while condoling Nyenze’s family, said the government will be represented at the burial by the President and his deputy William Ruto.

“Nyenze was a very honest and straightforward person. During last year’s East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) games he said he could not play but wanted to cheer the team,” Muturi said during Nyenze’s fundraiser at KICC, Nairobi.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula, who was present, said National Super Alliance (Nasa) principals will be at the burial. Former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka is also expected to jet in from Germany, where his wife Pauline is receiving treatment, to bid farewell to his close ally.

More than Sh10 million was raised at the event as Uhuru sent Sh2 million and his deputy Ruto Sh1 million. Muturi gave Sh750,000 while Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko sent Sh500,000. Many await the meeting of Uhuru and Raila as the country recovers from the extended General Election.
