Embattled Masinde Muliro University Vice Chancellor Fredrick Otieno has scoffed at the graft indictment by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and dared the agency to table evidence linking him to financial mismanagement.
Reacting to recommendation by the anti-graft body that he be removed as VC, Prof Otieno instead accused EACC of joining a “cartel of corruption” responsible for the financial mess at the university in the past to engage in witch-hunt and smear campaign.
“It is absurd for EACC to take more than 12 months investigating general and wild allegations and not be specific. This is pure witch hunt. It is unfortunate and I wish our government would protect those of us who put our lives on the line to create and grow corruption-free organisations,” he said.
This comes local activists gave him a three-week notice to vacate office or he be ejected forcibly. Abuko Abukaka and Denis Weche who purport to lead a group of local leaders also asked Education CS Fred Matiang’i to intervene and remove the VC.
