Kabras Sugar head coach Charles Cardovillis has included speedster Felix Ayange in his squad with his new signing from Homeboyz, Bramwell Mayaka set to start when they host Nakuru in a sponsor’s derby in the match Day Three Saturday in Kakamega.
Mayaka will start at prop alongside Uganda’s imports Asuma Mugerwa at lose head prop with Coleman Were tackling the hooking role to complete the front row. Felix Ayange who is back from Dubai Sevens with Samurai international will start at blind wing with Kenya Simba’s George Nyambua to feature at flank.
In their last Kenya Cup encounter on January 21 at the same venue Nakuru beat the sugar millers 19-17, an avenging score after Kabras had earlier on raided Nakuru 19-15 in Nakuru. The Kenya Cup last season’s runners-up, coach Cardovillis fully aware of the damage Nakuru did at their home turf, predicts nothing short of a thriller which he believes his side should be able to overcome should they stick to the script.
“Nakuru will come at us hard. They are wounded after losing to Harlequins last weekend and they are one of the few teams not to have lost in Kakamega. Add to all this, it is a sponsors’ derby, so there is so much to play our hearts for. Our focus will be to disrupt their rhythm and get the win.
We are at home and will be looking to make our home advantage count,” said Carovillis. Meanwhile Homeboyz will be up in arms as they host Impala Saracens at the Jamhuri Grounds, the first venue to host a double-header this season after Nondescripts play host to Mombasa RFC.
Nondies will curtain raise the double-header at 2pm, a match which both sides will be looking at registering a season’s first win. Homeboyz will then take on the Sarries at 4pm in a match which each point and opportunity will count.
Kenya Harlequins set to take on Mwamba, will be looking forward to bank on points from the clash, an unpredictable match which the Black Shirts can pull a surprise against all odds to upset the hosts should Quins make costly errors.
Mwamba will be coming into their third fixture with a new approach as they seek to regain their winning foot in an away match against a star-studded Quins side which has named a strong side after the inclusion of Kenya Simbas skipper Wilson Kopondo and centre David Ambunya to make it seven Kenya Simbas in the squad.
Cup defending champions, KCB will play host to Blak Blad RFC at the KCB Ruaraka grounds. Both sides have registered two wins making it an interesting clash as Kenya Simbas points hunter Darwin Mukidza debuts at fullback after missing out the first two rounds owing to national team commitment.
