How did you meet?

George: We come from the same village and we knew each other, but had not seen each other for many years. In November 2014, we boarded the same matatu from Meru. We embraced that opportunity fully and exchanged contacts, then kept in touch. We dated for two years and five months before we decided to make it official.

How long did it take you to plan the wedding and what was your budget?

We started planning the wedding in January this year, and our budget was Sh350,000.

How many guests did you invite and who had more guests?

Our estimate was 500 guests, but we had 700. She attracted so many guests, especially fans who listen to her early morning programme on Meru FM.

What was the size of your cake?

We had a seven-tier vanilla cake, because parents from both sides, pastors from both churches, the best couple and the guests were all to get a share. You had a small bridal team, tell us about that. Other than the best couple, we had three bridesmaids and four groomsmen, because we have always admired a small bridal team.

What were the highs and lows on your wedding day?

God was in total control, because the day was fine, and we didn’t experience anything unplanned for. The best thing was financial and material support from friends and relatives.

Advice to couples planning to wed?

Every couple should know that there is life after the wedding day. Plan according to your budget, because you can’t please everybody. Don’t shy away from having a wedding because you have little money. The blessing from religious leaders and parents are very important. Last but not least, don’t let any shortcoming spoil your day. Learn to cope and accommodate.
