Pharmacy and poisons board raises alarm over misuse of lifestyle medicines, contraceptives

The Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board has raised alarm over the increased abuse of lifestyle medicines including Viagra  and emergency contraceptives with a potential for serious health implications on the abusers.

Speaking after a week long enforcement tour of the Coast region, the board’s Senior Inspector of Drugs Julias Kulai noted that there was an upsurge in abuse of the two over the counter drugs used to enhance sexual performance and prevent pregnancies.

The board has also sounded an alert over the abuse of anti-biotics and anti-malarial drugs.
