Two prime suspects in the murder of rugby star Michael Shitindo Okombe were yesterday charged before a Nakuru court. Maryanne Mumbi together with Calvin Okoth appeared before High Court judge Justice Maureen Odero after a psychiatric report presented revealed the two were fit to stand trial.
The duo were charged that on November 4, at Olive Inn area in Kiamunyi estate jointly killed Michael Okombe, a rugby player. They both pleaded not guilty and through their lawyers Kamau Chomba and Bernard Akang’o, they pleaded to be released on bond saying it was a constitutional right to be out on bond.
“We wish that our clients be granted bond in this case, it is a constitutional right and our clients are entitled to the same,” said Kamau. Justice Odero released the two on a Sh300,000 bond and surety of the same amount each after the prosecution said it doesn’t have an objection since most part of the investigations was complete. The case will be heard on January 22 after the prosecution presents its case.
