Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) revived their chances of advancing to the Kenya Volleyball Fderation (KVF) Premier League play offs after downing rivals Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) 3-2 in a pulsating match played Friday at Kerkwony Stadium in Eldama Ravine Baringo County.
KPA who had three other matches to play to redeem their chances of securing their third straight qualification to the play-offs were forced to rally from behind after going down in their first two sets (25-23,25-21).
The Dockers fought their way back into the match in the third set after shrugging off pressure to grab their first set victory 25-19 as the match headed for the fourth set with the military side leading 2-1.
A rejuvenated KPA kept their tempo high in the fourth set with another victory (25-21) to level the proceedings 2-2 to warrant a fifth decider set to determine the ultimate winner of the duel. Confusion rocked KDF defence as KPA took the lead from serve-off of the final set and easily delivered home a bold 15-7 victory to emerge the winners.
KDF’s loss left their chances of advancing to the next stage hanging on a precipice after KPA went ahead to register their second victory of the day against Vihiga County 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-13).
Should the Mombasa-based side outplay heavyweights Prisons Kenya and Mount Kenya University, they will automatically lock KDF out of the play-offs but the former is a hard nut to crack for the Dockers.
In other results AP Kenya was no show against Prisons Kenya as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat. (25-16,25-16,25-22) .Prisons Kenya, Cooperative Bank and champions General Service Unit (GSU)have already qualified to the next stage. -TIMOTHY SIMWA
