A 37-year-old woman who stabbed to death her rugby star boyfriend on Saturday evening at a party has surrendered to police. Maryanne Mumbi, the key suspect together with five others including host of the fateful party surrendered themselves to the Nakuru Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regional offices but were later referred to Rongai Police Station. Rongai OCPD Japhet Kioko said they are holding the six who have already recorded statements awaiting further investigations into the murder of Mike Okombe.
“The main suspect surrendered herself to the police accompanied by her lawyer. We also have the host of the party and will prefer charges on them once investigations are complete,” he said.
Denied claims Mumbi’s lawyer Kamau Chomba denied claims that her client had fled adding that she was not aware of Okombe’s death. He said his client was shocked and decided to present herself to the police.
It is alleged that the suspect stabbed the player with a kitchen knife after a scuffle. Witnesses claim that a car belonging to Mumbi’s sister was used to rush Okombe to Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Detectives had a difficult time gathering evidence after it emerged that the blood stains in the house were cleaned “to avoid traumatising children”.
