It was goals galore as Women’s Premier League teams kept the title fight going with leaders Thika and Vihiga Queens registering wins in their respective zones at the weekend.
Zone B leaders Vihiga Queens welcomed their Just Be Master (JBM) kit sponsors with a resounding 3-0 win over Eldoret Falcons at Mumias Complex, Terry Engesha the star as she scored a hat-trick.
In another match played at the same venue, Wadadia FC, fighting for a play-off slot, shrugged off stiff competition from Kisumu-based Palos Ladies to carry the day 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.
A hat-trick from Ruth Chebungei and an additional goal from Miriam Chelangat handed Wadadia the much-needed win as Palos’ goals came from Emaline Adhiambo’s brace and Treezer Manyala’s added time strike.
Meanwhile, Oserian Ladies might have driven the final nail into Bulemia’s coffin when they thrashed them 7-0. Oserian raised their chances of featuring in the play-offs while sending Bulemia out of the division.
In zone A, Mombasa-based Spedag made easy work of Mathare United Women, beating them 5-0 with Harambee Starlets skipper Wendy Achieng and diminutive winger Esse Akida leading the onslaught by each scoring a brace while the fifth came from Cheris Avilia. Zone leaders Thika Queens extended their lead with a 4-0 win over bottom-placed Soccer Sisters.
At the MYSA grounds in Nairobi’s Komarock, Makolanders edged out Kayole Starlets 3-0 to extend their fine run in the second leg. A brace from Lucy Njeri added to Dorcas Kizugu’s goal was enough to earn them three points.
