Victims of the resulting violence following protests in opposition strongholds in Western Kenya region have received financial aid from Kenya Red Cross.
The beneficiaries included 50 households from Western and Nyanza regions that were directly affected in the violent confrontations between police and opposition protesters before the fresh presidential elections on October 26.
Kenya Red Cross Emergency operations manager Vinont Ndigila said the beneficiaries were drawn from Kisumu, Homa Bay, Vihiga and Migori counties which were largely affected by violent protests.
Under the initiative he said each beneficiary received Sh20, 000 stipend to help them resume their normal lives and businesses.
“As Kenya Red Cross we gave out financial aid and not the normal relief items to enable them settle pending dues such as paying rents,” said Ndigila.
