It was a day of big scores for Kanbis and Stray Lions as the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association Super League resumed on Sunday. Fifteen-time champions Kanbis continued with their good run as they thrashed lowly Ruaraka by 214 runs after posting an impressive 377/6.
Dhiren Gondaria (144 off 131 balls) and Nelson Mandela (117 off 87) were the toast of the team as they owned the board against their lacklustre opponents. Gondaria hit a staggering 11 boundaries and five sixes while his partner weighed in with four glorious sixes and nine boundaries to push the score beyond reach.
Rakep Patel, who has had four centuries this season, came in at the middle order to contribute his own 63 off 55 balls on a modest outing by his standards. The second innings saw Kanbis restrict Ruaraka effectively with Sagar Shah on 97 the lone big fighter for them. Bowlers for the current league leaders were ruthless as they ejected the entire batsmen of hosts for a paltry 163.
Meanwhile, defending champions Stray Lions routinely dispatched lbottom-placed Kongonis by 184 runs at Nairobi Club. Anup Fulper had a tidy 105 on the board for Lions with the visiting team posting a score total of 312 all out with at least 10 balls in the bag.
Kongonis’ bowling was elegant during the innings as they reduced the bigwigs 11 for two in 17 balls. However, the second wicket partnership (151 in 28 overs) of Fulper and Abraham Vadada was significant in shoring up the numbers.
The third batsman was eventually caught by Tony Ochieng’ but not before combining with experienced Collins Obuya ( 60 off 30 balls) for 49 in the second wicket stand.
Elsewhere, Swamibapa collected only 12 points following a washout against Nairobi Gymkhana at Jaffreys Grounds. The first innings saw them get 286 all out but in an attempt to restrict the chase, rains hit hard while the board was on 150/5 leading to an abandonment.
