Youths storm Busia polling stations, halt exercise

The fresh presidential poll failed to take off in most parts of Busia county after Nasa supporters raided polling stations and destroyed election materials.

The exercise was disrupted in some parts of Butula, Matayos and Teso South sub-counties where Nasa supporters took control of polling stations which reportedly had one security officer each.

Opposition supporters at Obekai trading in Teso South had allegedly armed themselves with a sackful of bees which they threatened to unleash on any would-be voters. Arson threats Former Teso South MP Mary Emase, who voted at Aterait primary school, said many Jubilee members in the area did not vote following threats by Nasa supporters to burn down their houses.

A spot check by People Daily revealed that Mabunge AC polling station in Matayos constituency was raided by Nasa supporters who destroyed ballot boxes bringing the exercise to an end.

Jubilee Party youth accused Matayos MP Geoffrey Odanga of buying alcohol for Nasa youth to disrupt the voting exercise in his Bwamani area. He, however, dismissed the allegations as false.
