Sony Sugar and Chemelil Sugar played to a 2 – 2 draw in a mid week fixture, the last of the 30th round of matches in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) at Chemelil Complex.
The sugar millers’ derby is normally a cagey affair and the last four meetings between the two teams have yielded a total four goals but it was different this time, the two sides were this time more expressive in their forays forward.
The opener came on the quarter hour mark with the reliable George Abege firing home to reward the visitors for a strong start. That was, however, canceled out in the 43rd minute when Collins Netto was fouled in the box and defender Kyata Amani stepped upto score the equaliser from the spot.
Sony Sugar’s hero in the GOtv Shield, Benjamin Mosha would get the second goal for the visitors in the 63rd minute but while they seemed to be cruising to a crucial win, Philip Muchuma sunk their hearts as he slammed home the leveller on 73 minutes.
Sony coach Salim Babu has asserted that he is hoping that his crop of talented young players remain with the side for the foreseeable future as the team aims to build on the run that saw them finish third in the 2017 GOtv Shield competition.
