Official says candidates vague on youth agenda

Candidates and parties have failed to explicitly state how their documented policies will benefit the youth on some of the thematic youth issues, a youth organisation has reported.

Addressing the press yesterday at a Nairobi hotel, Youth Agenda officials said that while politicians have publicised their manifestos, youth were not involved in decision-making by way of proposed interventions.

Youth Agenda chief executive Susan Mwongera said youth remain “at an arm’s length” from the government ranks of policy formulation and implementation citing that it has left this bracket unengaged, unresponsive and disoriented.

She said few candidates have responded to questions from youth and have also subsequently evaded platforms provided that would allow them to share their youth agenda.
