Six centuries were witnessed as the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association Super League batted into the third week on Sunday. As the championship slowly gathers momentum, Rakep Patel of Kanbis (200), Collins Obuya of Stray Lions (124) and Vinod Rabadia on 108 were among the highest scorers of the weekend.
Debutants Obuya Academy were the toss of the weekend, however, as they put in a brilliant all-round performance that saw them stun regulars Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj by 69 runs with Kennedy Obuya missing a century by two runs after posting 98 on the board.
Obuya Academy, who fell off in their first two matches against Sir Ali and Kanbis, had to be patient as they put together a good mastery on the crease with sensational bowling to haul them off the base of the log ahead of Kongonis Club.
Meanwhile, two centuries from Kanbis and national team batsman Patel was enough to sink Ruaraka, his score coming off 120 balls with a remarkable 13 maximums and 15 boundaries.
He bossed the crease and his contribution alongside Dhiren Gondaria was too hot to handle for they rivals as they hit 443 in their alloted overs, the second highest target of the season. Elsewhere, Sikh Union recovered from last weekend’s mishap by beating Sir Ali by 90 runs at Simba Union grounds.
Gurdeep Singh starred with the bat, grabbing a century to his name (102). His scores came off 112 balls with eight boundaries and a single maximum shoring up the numbers.
In another tie, Swamibapa shut out Nairobi Gymkhana by two wickets. The Gymkhana side were first to bat but only set themselves a target of 181 all out with 28 balls in hand.
Only Rushabh Patel (56 off 65 balls) and Sidd Vijaysingh (54 off 70 balls) contributed half tonnes to the score board for the home team.
