Recent remarks by National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate Raila Odinga embracing Nyanza independent candidates has caused political jitters in the region.
During his rallies in Homa Bay last Monday, Raila seemed to have softened his stance on opposition against independent candidates in the region when he welcomed them to join his team.
The ODM leader said all the candidates were his people. But Homa Bay Women’s Representative Gladys Wanga, who is leading the Nasa presidential campaign team in Nyanza, says Raila did not declare his support for the independent candidates but only asked them to support his State House bid.
Wanga, who has been championing for the six-piece voting pattern in Nyanza, instead told those contesting on independent tickets to shelve their ambitions and support the party nominees’ candidatures in the upcoming election.
“Let nobody be cheated that Raila endorsed any independent candidate in Nyanza. He is fully behind the ODM six-piece voting pattern,” said Wanga.
Similar remarks have been echoed by outgoing Nyando MP and Kisumu senator candidate Fred Outa who has insisted that the residents must shun the neutrals and vote in ODM candidates.
However, Kabondo Kasipul MP Sylvance Osele an independentcandidate, says Raila’s announcement meant that the contest for political seats in the region is open to all candidates and not necessarily the ODM nominees.
