Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders on Saturday unanimously endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta as their preferred presidential candidate.
Making the declaration at Nchiru shrines, the council led by chairman Linus Kathera and secretary general Josphat Murangiri, vowed to campaign vigorously for Uhuru to ensure no run-off is held after polls.
They urged all Meru residents to support the bid and come out in large numbers and vote for President Uhuru on August 8 to enable him win the election with a landslide.
“We have made our stand us the Ameru elders to support Uhuru re-election owing to his impressive development track record for the last four years,” said Murangiri.
“We appeal to all Kenyans and candidates in particular to embrace a peaceful election because Kenya is our country which must remain united before and after election,” he said.
