Christian Gonzalez capitalised on a moment of hesitancy to lift Spanish LaLiga 123 side Atletico Sevilla to a narrow 1-0 victory over SportPesa Premier League (SPL) AllStars on Saturday night.
The result saw the Kenyan top flight end their tour of Spain without victory after being handsomely beaten 4-0 on Wednesday by another LaLiga 123 Segunda side Cordoba CF but there was no denying the marked improvement against the B-team of LaLiga giants Sevilla CF.
From a floating free-kick in the 16th minute of the encounter in Malaga, Rodriguez pounced inside the box to beat Sofapaka FC keeper Mathias Kigonya when he headed the ball past the exposed SPL AllStars custodian.
Kigonya rose to remonstrate with his defence because it went walkabout when the set piece delivery from the right swung into the SPL AllStars danger area leaving two Atletico attackers unmarked to devastating consequences.
National team Harambee Stars head coach, Stanley Okumbi and his assistant; Stars Under 20 boss John Kamau did not tinker much with the SPL AllStars starting XI as they sought a formula to counter the pace and short passing of Spanish teams that saw them torn to shreds by Cordoba.
Stars first-choice keeper, Boniface Oluoch (Gor Mahia FC) and defender Wesley Onguso (Western Stima FC) were the notable changes at the in the starting line-up from the Cordoba game as Kigonya and Simon Mbugua (Posta Ranger FC) took their places. In midfield, out went Jackson Macharia (Tusker FC) and in came Boniface Muchiri (Sony Sugar FC).
