How did you choose the theme of your wedding?
Angela: I am from the Maa community in Samburu, so we chose the theme because we thought it was a unique way to do our wedding. So, we settled for the Moran’s red and royal blue as our theme colours.
What was your budget?
We were working with Sh650,000, however, it shot up to Sh850,000 because of the number of guests we had.
How did you handle the possibility of difficult family members?
One thing we did was holding meetings with them prior to the wedding and explaining what we expected from them.
What are some of the challenges you faced while planning the wedding?
Well, that would be overstretching our invitations. It was overwhelming. Word of advice; teamwork is key, especially with your fiancé. Another thing is getting reliable family representatives from both families. Also, your committee should understand that it’s your wedding, not theirs.
What did you learn while planning your wedding?
Staying within the budget is important, and also, working with a realistic budget. Another thing, never do your wedding to please anyone else apart from your spouse.
What is one thing you would change about your wedding if given the chance?
Maybe the menu. What was served was not up to our expectation, from the feedback we got.
