Contradictory reports emerged yesterday over an alleged Monday night attack on a General Service Unit (GSU) camp in Mukowe, Lamu county with two government officers giving different versions on the incident.
According to Lamu county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri, GSU officers manning the camp repulsed the estimated 50 attackers. However, operations director in Boni forest James ole Serian said there was confusion after a GSU sentry made “some suspicious movement” around the camp prompting a response from colleagues.
“After investigating the matter, it was found that a sentry at the GSU camp heard some suspicious movement near the camp gate and decided to fire at them as precautionary measure,” ole Serian said in a statement. But Kanyiri said quick response by the officers foiled what would have been a deadly attack by the militants.
