Mombasa Jubilee governor candidate Suleiman Shabhal has promised to turn around the economic fortunes of the coastal town. He said if elected, his government will create a conducive environment for businesses to grow and attract more investors.
“I have a plan in my manifesto to create a conducive environment to attract more companies from other countries to invest in Mombasa,” he said. “This will create more jobs for our youth,” he added.
According to Shabhal , the challenge of joblessness has remained a nagging issue in Mombasa because governor Hassan Joho’s administration has failed to create a friendly environment for investors to do business in Mombasa.
He blamed high taxation imposed on businessmen and lack of proper planning of the city as the major cause for Mombasa’s economic stagnation. “Whenever I hear companies leaving Mombasa, I get irritated because that has a direct influence on the economic stainability of our county,”he said.
He added that there was need to identify and address underlying issues resulting into the massive exit. Shabhal will battle it out with incumbent Joho, Nyali MP Hezron Awiti and Senator Hassan Omar.
