Judge orders mental test for Nakumatt boss in gun drama

A senior Nakumatt manager who is accused of shooting and killing his junior colleague at the supermarket’s headquarters in Nairobi was yesterday arraigned in court.

However, Transport manager Steve Abdul Kairo, who appeared before Justice Jessie Lessit did not plead to the murder charges after the judge ordered him to be remanded in custody for a week to enable the police to take him to Mathari Mental Referral Hospital for mental assessment before taking plea on July 18.

Kairo is alleged to have fatally shot Stephen Wafula Musumbi, 23, twice in the chest after he allegedly attacked him with a panga on November 10, 2015 at the supermarket’s headquarters in Industrial Area, Nairobi county. The accused is a licensed gun holder and his pistol was immediately confiscated to be used as exhibit in the case.
