SportPesa Super Eight Premier League leaders Kawangware United took their impeccable form into round 17, stretching their unbeaten run to eight successive games following a comprehensive 3-1 victory over former champions Technical University of Kenya (TUK FC) at Riruta BP Stadium on Sunday.
Leading golden boot contender and veteran forward Francis Thairu inspired Kawagware to the decisive victory after scoring twice in a span of three minutes (30 and 33) as Dancun Kayoti scrambled home a neat free kick from 20 yards out to ensure the league leaders keep their relentless title charge on course.
Thairu, who also won the top scorers award last season, pushed his tally to 14 goals while the win lifts them to 42 points, eight clear of second-placed Jericho FC.
At Calvary grounds, defending champions Kayole Asubuhi complicated their chances of retaining the title after drifting further down the log to sixth on 28 points following a 1-1 draw by Team Umeme who move to ninth with 23 points.
Victor Hanyolo rescued the point for Umeme in the 41st minute after Daniel Wambugu’s had given Kayole an early lead. At Drive-in grounds, an own goal from Stephen Odhiambo and Gladson Goodhope’s second half leveler ensured Zamalek FC saved a point after fighting to a 2-2 draw against Shauri Moyo Blue Stars who got their goals through Evans Tangi and Idris Gerrard while struggling Macmillan FC eased their troubles with a second win of the season, a 1-0 victory over bottom-placed Ajax Youth.
