Former Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor Olive Mugenda has warned youth against being used to cause chaos before, during and after the elections.
She said the youth, particularly university and college students, should set the pace in maintaining peace to ensure the country remains united. Speaking at Mount Kenya University during the 112th graduation ceremony on Friday, Mugenda said the youth, through their numerical strength, will play a key role in determining the country’s political destiny.
“I appeal to our youth to refuse to be used to unleash violence in this electioneering period. Let them listen to those vying for elective posts and make an informed decision on who to vote for,” said Mugenda.
The scholar, who was the chief speaker at the ceremony also attended by Deputy President William Ruto, said the youth should embrace those whose manifestos favour them. More than 4,000 graduands were conferred with degrees and diplomas in various fields.
