Sheil Kotecha meets Abdallah Fouad of Egypt in the ITF Nairobi Juniors Circuit final Saturday at the Nairobi Club following his straight sets win of 6-2 6-4 over Pablo Schel.
The top seed has had a stellar run this far and showed his mettle with composure at the court especially on his service variance.
Kotecha who was a finalist at last week’s Britam Open Championships showed no sign of fatigue witnessed through his game under the mid-morning sun.
The big hitting Spanish opponent who is ranked 12th in this tournament was no pushover as he constantly made life difficult against Kotecha especially with fiery backhands.
His aggression also stole the show for moments but the home favorite had the advantage of surface familiarity and was in most cases ready to thwart lurking danger. Kotecha was a comfortable 3-0 up before Schel worked his magic smart and played calculative defences and swift attacks which earned him two games and reduce score line.
However, Kotecha had to have solid mental strength and inspire courage to go all out and shut his opponent effectively. In the second set, it was more of a game of wit but also swings as both sides came into the party with a nose for qualification of the finale.
Kotecha made sure that his serves were not easy to deal with and kept near the net to react on instinct. He constantly drew out his opponent with clever balls thus snatching crucial winners on the go.
The work was made all the more lighter with the double-faults on the part of Schel who was getting visibly tired while Kotecha looked energized.
