Four security officers attached to Lilian Nganga, the Machakos governor Alfred Mutua’s wife, perished yesterday in a grisly car crash at Lukenya, on Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
According to Athi River OCPD Shammer Wario, the officers collided head-on with an overtaking Land Cruiser vehicle after seeing off Mrs Mutua off to Nairobi.
“From initial investigations, the Land Cruiser driver was speeding and tried to overtake another car before hitting the saloon car killing the four officers on the spot,” he said.
The driver of the Land Cruiser escaped with slight injuries and is recuperating at Mater Hospital in Nairobi while the bodies of the four, two police officers Jacinta Miteti and Dominic Mbuvi and two inspectorate officers were taken to Shalom Community hospital mortuary waiting postmortem. Meanwhile, Mutua has sent condolences to the families and friends of the fallen officers describing it as “unfortunate and untimely.”
