William Kimutai Cheboi, a 44-year-old cobbler from Elgeyo Marakwet County, became Lotto’s 172nd millionaire after bagging Sh1 million by raffle in the 167th draw held last weekend.
With his win, Cheboi can happily count himself among Lotto winners that total 175 millionaires thus far (including Supa Sunday) since the inception of the lottery firm in November 2015.
Cheboi earned the windfall a day before another lucky Kenyan, Millicent Akumu emerged the 17th Supa Sunday millionaire and Lotto’s 170th millionaire after she won a similar amount.
Cheboi, whose ticket number was 24539985521, had his luck set on the right path when he played Lotto and was subsequently entered in the Main Draw on June 10.
The father of nine had a premonition that he would win, and upon receiving the good news from Lotto officials, he was able to ecstatically and honestly proclaim “ Cheza Lotto, Sio Ndoto,”.
Having been a shoe-repairer for the last 10 years, Kimutai, who was initially a vegetable farmer at his rural home, says the latest fortune has presented him with an opportunity to pursue other interests to the benefit of his extended family.
