Nairobi Sikh Union climbed four spots on the log after overpowering Parklands Sports Club 5-0 in the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) men’s Premiere League as Telkom Orange maintain their grip on first place on the women’s table, extending their unbeaten record by thumping JKUAT 6-0.
Sikh’s goals were flicked in by Wilson Otieno, Allan Inungu, Collins Wanjala, Jalspreet Kalsi and Davis Wanangwe in that order. The big win saw Sikh Union move from ninth to fifth place on the standings while Orange kept their lead intact with 24 points off seven straight wins from as many matches.
Losing the match would have seen Orange share their league leadership with USIU-Africa who beat Amiras 2-0. Audrey Omaido and Flavian Mutiva each scored a brace for Orange with Jacqueline Mwangi and Betsy Omalla adding one apiece to complete the rout.
Meanwhile, Green Sharks, Butali Warriors and Wazalendo maintained their second, third and fourth places on the men’s log courtesy of their respective wins, an indication of how the top four sides are fighting to remain within the play-off places.
In other women’s league matches, Vikings registered a 1-0 win over Multi Media University (MMU) while Kenyatta Univeristy held Sliders 1-1.
The women’s log was, however, not altered given the mixed results posted over the weekend thus leaving Orange, USIU-Africa, Chase Amiras and Strathmore in the top four in that order.
National men’s league matches saw Wazalendo Youth beat MMU 2-1 to tie fourth on the log with University of Nairobi in Conference B.
