Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has announced a waiver in interests and penalties on land rates and urged property owners to take advantage of the relief to clear the principal amounting to Sh2.9 billion.
Sub-Counties Administration chief officer John Ntoiti, said rate payable annually in the Central Business District (CBD) is between Sh5,000 and Sh50,000.
He said City Hall will embark on a clamp down of defaulters in the 17 subcounties from next month. The county is owed Sh271 billion as per March 31 2017 accrued land rates due with the national government leading the debtors pack with Sh72 billion.
Kidero is expected to appear before the Senate committee on Finance, Commerce and Budget to shed more light on the debt.
