Offensive midfielder Ibrahim Mao is among three players who have been left out of AFC Leopards squad for the inaugural SportPesa Super Cup which kicks off in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Monday. Others who were left out of the team which jetted out to Dar last night include Lewis Wanami and Jackson Juma.
Leopards Manager Wellington Lidonde said the trio was ruled out of the squad due to a hitch in acquiring temporary travel papers. ‘The three players have passports but the immigration department demanded that they come with their parents to give certain information before the issuance with temporary passports.
By the time this was done, we felt it could interfere with our travel plans, hence the decision to drop them’ said Lidonde. He, however, pointed out that the team being handled by Dennis Kitambi on an interim capacity has suitable replacements.
Lidonde also reported that the team has improved drastically especially the striking force which had been the Achilles heel. ‘’The striking line of Fiamenyo (Gilbert), Kateregga (Allan) which had been misfiring is in perfect shape and fans will now be able to see improvement during our opening match against Singida United, said Lidonde.
Besides Leopards, other Kenyan flag bearers in the tournament include Tusker FC, record domestic champions Gor Mahia and Nakuru Allstars.
